The Fresh Start
Program is for students under limited expulsion from a Peel
public school.
- Potential candidates
are students who are motivated:
- to change the behaviours
which caused school problems
- to return to school following
the expulsion
Students who
are presented for admission to this program should:
- exhibit a willingness
to attend the program
- understand the structure
and requirements of the program
Program
- begins after 20 day
suspension, following APAC acceptance
- optional program for
students committed to changing behaviours
- combines academic and
social and personal management skills
- students can achieve
credits (up to 3 in a semester if they enroll near the
start of a semester)
- program includes outdoor
education
- 1 secondary teacher at
each location
- 1 elementary teacher
for both locations
- child and youth workers
at each location
- social work and psychology
support for students
- limited to 15 full time
students per site
- some students over 16
will be on modified, part-time schedules

Transportation
is the responsibility of the student and parent
Student
Hours
Monday – Thursday 8:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Friday 8:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Senior students
or students who are suspended late in a semester (after November
15th or April 15th) may be given a modified program which
does not require daily attendance.
Entry
- Students and parents
must visit the site and attend an Information Session
during the 20 day suspension. The parent should contact
the Peel Alternative School (PAS) vice principal to arrange
this visit. Information Sessions are held weekly: Wednesday
afternoon at PAS North and Thursday afternoon at PAS South.
- Students and parents
must write a letter of commitment to the program
- Students are presented
by the home school to APAC (Alternative Programs Admission
Committee)
- Following acceptance,
students must register within 7 school days
Transition
Back to School
At the end of
the program students are considered by APAC and may be placed,
in consultation with the Superintendent of Education, at a
regular school or in an alternative program. If the student
has not successfully completed the program, he/she will not
be returned to a school until the expulsion conditions are
met.
